Piri Piri Sauce and Marinade

This recipe for Piri Piri sauce works great as a marinade as well. It uses the fiery Bird's Eye Pepper, so watch out for the heat!

Ingredients

  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 3 Fresno peppers
  • 4 Bird's Eye peppers
  • 4 sprigs fresh oregeno
  • 2 lemons zested and juiced
  • 2 TBS kosher salt
  • 2 TBS apple cider vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 2 TBS Hungarian Paprika

Instructions

  • For my sauce, I don't want it blazing hot, so I stemmed and seeded the peppers. If you omit that step, your sauce will be much spicier. Change number of peppers as desired.
  • chop onion, bell pepper, garlic and fresno peppers and place on pan. Drizzle with olive oil. Roast in oven until cooked and blackening in spots.
  • Place roasted ingredients along with other ingredients in a blender and puree. Pour into a sauce pan and simmer for 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool. Use as a marinade, or brush on as you are cooking.
